Whipped vs. Un-Whipped: Which Tallow Balm Is Right for You?

If you've looked at our tallow balm range and wondered why we sell what's essentially the same ingredient in two different forms, you're not alone. The difference between our Pure Tallow Balm and our Whipped Tallow Balm isn't the tallow itself — it's what happens to it after it's rendered.

Pure Tallow Balm is tallow in its simplest, most solid form: melted, poured, and left to set. Nothing added, nothing whipped in. The result is a firm, dense balm that melts on contact with your skin's warmth. A little goes a long way, which is part of why it's our single-ingredient, no-frills option — ideal if you want the absolute basics with nothing else in the jar.

Whipped Tallow Balm starts from the same rendered tallow, but we aerate it — whipping air into it while it's still workable, the way you'd whip butter into a lighter frosting. The result is a soft, fluffy texture that scoops and spreads easily straight from the jar, absorbs a little faster, and feels lighter on the skin without changing what's actually in it.

So which one should you reach for? If you like a balm you can really work into dry patches, elbows, or heels, and don't mind taking a moment to warm it between your palms first, Pure Tallow Balm's density means a small jar lasts a long time. If you want something that glides on immediately and feels less "heavy" for everyday face and body use, Whipped is usually the easier daily habit to keep.

Neither is "better" — they're the same grass-fed tallow, just prepared differently for different moods and routines. Plenty of our customers keep one of each: Pure for targeted, intensive spots, Whipped for all-over daily moisturising.
